Long before the rise of K-Pop, Cantopop dominated the music scene in this region.

The 80s saw the rise of mega superstars. Singers like Alan Tam, Anita Mui, Danny Chan, Leslie Cheung, Priscilla Chan, Sammi Cheng, Hacken Lee, Grasshopper and many more became household names.

For the very first time, the Cabaret Series pays tribute to the Golden Age of Cantopop with its upcoming tribute Golden Melody《劲歌金曲》.

Timeless classics such as Leslie’s Chase《追》make it into the programme alongside a Jacky Cheung favourite I Just Want To Spend My Lifetime With You《只想一生跟你走》. Some music from well-known HK films will also be featured such as Faye Wong’s rendition of Dream Lover《梦中人》 from the iconic Wong Kar Wai movie Chungking Express, George Lam’s Needing You Every Minute 《分分钟需要你》from Silent Love as well as For Love《你你你为了爱情》from I Have a Date with Spring.

Presented by klpac and The Actors Studio Seni Teater Rakyat with the support of MUKA SPACE, it will once again be directed by Ian Chow and co-directed by Easee Gan. Cabaret Series: Golden Melody《劲歌金曲》 rounds up A-list performers including MayJune Tan (ntv7 Star Idol Malaysia), Ruby Faye (NEWAY Advocating the Great Leap Forward Female Singer Award), Tan Li Yang (Leader of La Voce Choir), Dickson Chai (Best Original Music, ADA Drama Award) as well as Toh Shir Ling & Jacqueline Teng (Best Overall Production, Short+Sweet Malaysia).
