In the first episode of Season 2, Joe & Faridah chats with an icon whose name is synonymous with Malaysian Music and is widely acknowledged to be the driving force behind the Jazz Scene in Malaysia.
Even before graduating Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in 1982, he had already made a name for himself as a pianist. He was the prime mover behind Malaysia’s first Jazz-Rock concert in 1978, which brought about a tremendous interest in Jazz, planting the seeds for the way Jazz is loved in Malaysia.
He has had an illustrious career as a renowned Jazz Pianist, Composer, Musical Director for many of Malaysia’s top performers like Sudirman (for who he composed “A Thousand Million Smiles), owner of a successful Music Production Company and Recording Studio as well as a music teacher.
His Jazz Club “All That Jazz” was one of the most significant Jazz Clubs in the Asia region. In recent times, he composed and directed several highly successful musicals including ‘Supermokh’ and ‘Lat Kampung Boy’ (Best Composer, BOH Cameronian Arts Award).
In 2017, he was the Music Director, Composer and Orchestrator for the very successful opening ceremony of the 2017 SEA Games in KL. He is also the principal mover behind the successful Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival.
